Tortoises Through the Lens
National Parks Conservation Association, Barstow, CA
April 2009
Tortoises Through the Lens is a community based conservation action project, designed to educate and empower high school students and encourage the local community and visitors to learn about conservation issues in the Mojave Desert. During an intensive one-day workshop, high school students from the Mojave Desert region learned how photography and other artistic mediums can shape public perception and create social and environmental change. They were introduced to basic photography and visual storytelling concepts and then used these ideas over a summer to create images about local and regional conservation issues to produce their own photo book.
